Fencing Classes

Advanced Fencing Class, Swordplay LA

Who Needs Group Fencing Classes? Everyone

Your fencing journey began with private lessons, but you can’t get by on one-on-one or even two-on-one fencing training sessions alone. You need to join a group class to excel.

That’s where Swordplay LA’s group fencing classes come into the picture. These training sessions allow you to test yourself against your peers. That means you get to improve through the furnace of real life fencing experience, and it makes fencing more fun because you now have friends to do it with!

Your Options

All of Swordplay LA’s classes involve multiple students and one instructor. The classes are structured around an opening warm-up, fencing exercises, and plenty of fencing bouts. Depending on your experience level, you have two kinds of classes to choose from:

Beginner/Intermediate Fencing Classes (1 Hour)

These classes help new fencers master the fundamentals of good fencing. If you just finished your intro packet of lessons, have been fencing for only a few months, or just fence for fun, these classes are perfect for you. Students will:

  • Practice basic bladework and footwork techniques

  • Fence with other students

  • Get an introduction to competitive fencing

Intermediate/Advanced Fencing Classes (2.5 Hours)

These classes are perfect for fencers who have a good grasp of the fundamentals and want to challenge themselves.

If you’ve been fencing for more than a year, talk to your instructor to find out if you’re ready for an Intermediate/Advanced fencing class. These classes are also highly recommended for students interested in competing and for those who currently compete in USFA tournaments, regardless of experience level.

Students will:

  • Learn to get touches by leveraging footwork

  • Obtain advanced bladework techniques

  • Participate in competitive-style fencing

Open Floor Fencing (2 Hours)

Open floor fencing is perfect for fencers who want to fence outside of classes and lessons, get a good work out, and make friends. Simply walk into the club and fence with whoever is there! These are not supervised by any one coach, but a couple of our instructors participate in open floor fencing every week and provide advice to their fellow fencers.
